Christopher Petsos is a photographer and artist. He believes that we see things through a filter of the self, a camera records the physical details of a scene, but our human eyes and sub-conscious selves are the interpreters that complete our view of reality.
In his own words
“When developing an image, I take the facts recorded by the camera and reintroduce my subjective experience. Using a digital stylus and tablet I impart my personal observations of lights and color into the image. Multiple exposures of the same subject are aligned, then selectively masked or revealed with the stylus to sculpt the highlights and shadows. In this way, emotions can be evoked in the viewer just as an impressionist painter evokes them by layering paint on a canvas.
Throughout the process, I stay faithful to the underlying truth of the scene. My work inhabits the space between literal depiction and my emotional Impression of the moment. The result is hyper-reality: facts imbued with feeling.”
